Premise vs. Hosted: What Does My Business Need?

Technology moves at the speed of, well, itself. It is constantly evolving, and changing the way we communicate.

This includes your business phone system.

Your business now has more options than ever before to custom-tailor your communications. But how do you sift through all the choices and know what will work best?

With acronyms like VoIP, SIP, IoT, PBX, etc. trying to figure it out can be like trying to learn a new foreign language.

That’s why we’ve put together the following to compare the two types of enterprise phone systems: On-Premise and Cloud-Hosted.

Comparing the Two

What is an On-Premise Phone System?

An on-premise phone system is when your PBX (the actual computer system itself) is physically located on the customer’s site. The PBX and phone equipment will be either owned or leased by the customer. The customer is responsible for contacting their vendor (UCI) for upgrades, maintenance, and/or expansion of the system.

What about a Cloud-Hosted Phone System?

A hosted phone system is a cloud based phone system. The only hardware on site are the physical phones and a dedicated router that prioritizes your voice traffic and connects the on-site phones to the cloud system. The upgrades, maintenance, and any changes to the system will be handled directly by the customer’s vendor (UCI).
